"I can't tell you a centre back that's been successful at that size"
"I can't tell you a centre back that's been successful at that size" - (Graeme Souness when referring to Man Utd's 5ft 9ins Lisandro Martinez).

How about -

Fabio Cannavaro (5"9)
Franco Baresi (5"9)

I think our very own Bobby Moore was only 5"10.

And Souness gets paid for those views. Embarrassing!

Anymore good midget centre backs?

Puyol and Mascherano. Steve Potts was our own shorter centre half.

We somehow made Maguire look a competent player in yesterdays game, so I wouldn't be going cock out for him just yet.

Paul Parker played centre back as well as right back...more than just a few times as well.

Steve Potts was the same size as Warwick Davies

Pottsy was 5'7. I suspect he had variable games depending on who he partnered. That's what football is all about isn't it, partnerships, something Moyesie seems to get wrong...

Chris Perry was only about 5ft 8 and wasnt too shabby.
Paul Parker and Potsie as mentioned as well as Stuart Pearce later in his career.

I'm pretty sure Bobby Moore wasn't 5'10", despite what wiki says.

Obscure ancient measurements
A Souness of short planks is precisely 5'9" thick...

Probably

It's almost like he's paid to create talking points

Re: Obscure ancient measurements
Much of what he says is clickbait, but there's no disputing he's a bit thick. I had the misfortune of hearing him on Talksport this morning and his opening gambit was to defend Moyes and say how west ham are right to set up the way they do against the big clubs as to do otherwise would be foolish and invite problems. An hour later he was then congratulating Newcastle for having the courage to turn up at places like Old Trafford and Anfield and 'have a go'.

No one pointed out that had we won yesterday we'd have gone above Liverpool which is remarkable because given how bad we know we've been this season it means they're proper shit

One for the oldies - Maurice Setters

400 games at the top level for WBA/Man U/Stoke/Coventry

Variously reported between 5'7" & 5'9".

At one time Mooro was encouraging Greenwood to sign him to instil more steel in our back line. Irons signed John Cushley instead -nothing changes.

Gary Mabbut was only 5ft 9, which was just about the right height for Fash the bash's elbow.

Kenny BROWN was 5'8"

I'm sure he played CB sometimes?

And he scored against Man Utd

To be fair, when sweepers/liberos were a thing, you didn't need height to be amazing there as a number of the names mentioned attest.

The greater use of a back 3 also opens up a similar door.
